ABC/DAP Grant and PBL
Heath Springs Elementary School is named an Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) site by the South Carolina Arts Commission and has also received the Distinguished Arts Program (DAP) grant from the South Carolina Department of Education.
Through these grants, HSE has been fortunate to bring in teaching artists to work with every grade level, put on annual professional-level productions (The Wizard of Oz, Practically Peter Pan, Babes In Toyland, Snow White, The Nutcracker, Cinderella, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Alice in Wonderland, The Snow Queen, Hansel and Gretel, 'Twas One Crazy Night Before Christmas, Little Red Riding Hood, Jingle Bell Jukebox, Snow White, and coming in the Fall, Annie, and in the Spring, The Ugly Duckling ), and is in the process of furthering the music, visual art, drama and dance departments.
It is our vision at HSE to use the arts as a vehicle for learning. Through the use of drama, creative movement/dance, visual art, media arts, and music (both instrumental and vocal), students are offered an arts-based approach to Common Core standards through individualized and team-teaching. We are fortunate to participate in professional development through Summer Teaching Institutes through the Peace Center for Performing Arts in Greenville, SC, Spoletto Arts Festival in Charleston, SC, and more.
